Martin Sherman is an award-winning artist who began painting with acrylics at seventeen without instruction. He then went on to Hamilton College where he had a combined studio and art history major while pursuing premedical studies. There he was mentored by Professor James Penny (former vice president of the Art Students League in NYC). During that period, he was also able to take art classes at Skidmore College and Cornell University.
While practicing general pediatrics in Fort Myers, Florida, he maintained a small studio producing a limited number of pieces. More recently, he has devoted full time attention to creating works with predominantly acrylics and also using charcoal, glazes, and texture enhancers on canvas. Being red-green color blind has led to interesting choices of color palates and fascination with light on objects. His work ranges from recognizable images to the completely nonobjective. Ultimately, he strives to create works that excite his visual and emotional aesthetic and share them with others.
